Very faint, coherent horizontal stripes are seen in continuum-subtracted HI datacubes. Fourier transforms of these stripes show a peak at u = 0 in the (u,v) plane. This effect can be seen in relatively short (10 hourshour) integration times and is primarily on the short baselines.

It is not yet possible to provide a general script that will work on all MeerKAT observations. We can int he in the meantime explain how the MHONGOOSE and Fornax surveys have dealt with the issue. Note that this flagging method will be implemented in an upcoming release of CARACal (scheduled for July 2022) and will then be available to the general user community.
